Hartford Community Leaders advocates partner with schools, faith communities, service organizations and businesses to raise awareness about the causes and effects of violence, housing, employment, childcare, food, and transportation.
Advocates also teach younger students about peacemaking and conflict resolution, developing skills that stop violence before it starts, empowering youth and young adults in our community.
Hartford Community Leaders began on May 1, 2014, as a community – based planning process bringing together residents, local organizations, police department and local politicians in a forum to come up with viable solutions to violence. During the first three months HCL generated support and enthusiasm in the community as organizations and community residents stepped forward to take active role in preventing violence in their neighborhood.
The Community Violence Prevention Initiative’s mission is to bring the community together to take a stand against violence and bring solutions and violence prevention strategies that affect the entire community.
To provide community residents living in Hartford , who may have had past involvement with the criminal justice system, with an opportunity to make connections that will help break down the barriers they have faced in accessing housing, employment, childcare, food, and transportation.
Advocates also teach youths about peacemaking and conflict resolution, developing skills that stop violence before it starts. Developing emotional intelligence and many other subjects. With the support of the parents and guidance to continue the skills you never know what the parents might learn with each session.
Facilitate workshops and forums to educate and build relations between the Police Department and the community
Collaborate with other organizations and entities in other cities, inviting them to become partners in working for common objectives bringing unity in our community.
To assist in Alcohol & Substance Abuse and Mental Health screening for Men and Women in our community.
